Infinix, a leading global smartphone brand focused on youth-oriented technology, praised the significant role played by Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in implementing the Mobile Phone Governance System based on IMEI Lock, which was launched at the beginning of 2025. The company noted that this step has created a pivotal shift in regulating the mobile device market in Egypt and protecting the national industry

Infinix explained that for years the Egyptian market had suffered from the widespread circulation of smuggled and non-compliant devices, which at certain periods accounted for more than 90% of total devices in circulation. This situation harmed local manufacturers, weakened industrial investments, and created unfair competition within the market

The company added that the implementation of the IMEI Lock mobile phone governance system has directly contributed to curbing device smuggling. As a result, the vast majority of mobile phones currently available in the Egyptian market—approaching 99%—are now legally manufactured or assembled locally, or imported through official channels. This has had a positive impact on market stability and provided strong support to factories operating in Egypt

Infinix further stated that the system not only protects the rights of the state and consumers, but also enhances the industrial investment climate.
