Tonight: Instituto Cervantes in Cairo and Alexandria spotlight the journalistic and literary García Márquez

Instituto Cervantes in Cairo, in partnership with the Embassy of Colombia in Egypt, presents “Soledad y compañía. A New Vision of Gabriel García Márquez” tonight, Sunday 23 November 2025, at its Dokki premises, and tomorrow, Monday 24 November, at the Instituto Cervantes in Alexandria. Both sessions start at 7:00 p.m. The events are in Spanish, with free admission until capacity is reached.
Colombian writer and journalist Silvana Paternostro presents Soledad y compañía, a polyphonic portrait of the man behind the myth, assembled from the voices of friends, admirers, detractors and fellow travellers. Moderation is by Dr Riham Ezzat, professor at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University.
Paternostro’s book casts García Márquez not only as the novelist who reconfigured the canon, but as a reporter whose eye for detail and political urgency shaped his era — a lineage sustained by new generations of Colombian writers through the country’s most convulsive years.
The event forms part of Instituto Cervantes’ wider programme to deepen cultural dialogue between Spain, Latin America and Egyptian audiences, and to foreground the global reach of Colombian letters.
